Havas Worldwide wins Media Employer of the Year 2013!

Media Employer of the Year Awards 2013

At a packed awards ceremony at the Cafe Royal last night,Sue McLelland and Wendy Duprey announced the winners of the 2013 Media Employer of the Year Award.

Paying tribute to the independent judging panel, Wendy said: "We’re hugely grateful for the time you've taken from your busy schedules to support the award... the panel session was challenging and rigorous, whilst also allowing a free slowing exchange of ideas and best practice."


Judging the awards were -

  • Dee Gibbs, MD and Company Founder of Liberty Communications – our winners of the 2012 award
  • Patrick Mills, Director of Professional Development at the IPA
  • Diane Foster, HR Director at Flamingo
  • Bruce Macrae – IIP assessor & owner of Media Network
  • Beckie Akers – Group HR Manager, Publicis Group UK


Wendy opened her speech outlining the history of the award; "Our award tonight recognises & celebrates media companies’ ability to inspire, motivate and develop their people. Its one of many initiatives run by Pathfinders which we hope demonstrates our commitment to remaining an opinion leader in the area of recruitment and employee engagement."

The finalists - Frank PR, Havas Worldwide, Kindred, PHD and Way to Blue all "overwhelmed" the judges with the quality of their nominations - Wendy commented: "Each of the finalists was able to give fantastic examples of best practice and how happier, more engaged staff engenders tangible business success. Congratulations to all our finalists."

She added: "Reaching this stage is a wonderful achievement!"


Before handing the prize to Russ Lidstone, CEO at Havas Worldwide London and Havas PR UK, Sue praised the winning nomination: "The judges were particularly impressed with the enthusiasm of the company representatives and their honest description of their challenges and successes."

Continuing, Sue explained that Havas had been chosen because of their "imaginative variety of learning and development opportunities" and the way in which the agency provided "a fun yet productive environments which truly allows people to flourish."

Picking up the award, Russ outlined the approach Havas takes in relation to its employees: "What we try to do at our agency is ensure that the people that work for us and with us have a sense of mastery so they get a chance to learn and grow, but also ensure that they have a sense of autonomy so they’re free to explore and have a sense of purpose."

He added: "I mean, of course, they want to get paid! ... But ultimately it's about wanting to get on the tube every day and come into work!"
